Fashion Week Day 4

So NY is having quite a good week, fashion shows galore and the Giants winning the Superbowl. None of the morning shows over excited me(er some were good like Oscar De la Renta, but w/e), so we'll just skip straight to the afternoon.

One of my favorite designers, Betsey Johnson, was celebarating 30 years of fashion and gave a show through the decades, starting with the betanik feel of the 1950's. The designs went from black to the fun colorfullness and prints we all know and love. There was abundant dresses, as well as fun bags, glasses, shoes, and belts.The show ended with the models all walking out with bundles of balloons and Bestey not doing one, but two of her signature cartwheels.

Charlotte Ronson's collection kind of reminded me of an Urban Outfitters catalog, but nothing's wrong with that. She mixed girly and delicate clothes with bright colors and some awesome plaid pieces. I can't find a video of the show yet, but it seemed like a good environment and I'm sure had some awesome music playing.

Max Azria's self titled line was the third show he did this week and everything was still awesome and different from the other 2 shows. The clothes were all about looking sexy with see-through items, underwear as outerwear, and cinched belts. There was also gorgeous sweaters and well-constructed dresses. Using dark fall colors and awesome shoes, the Max Azria show was definetly a hit.

With well-constructed jackets, jeweled tone dresses, and just the right amount of shine, the Proenza Schouler show was a hit for me. It was slightly different then what they've done in the past, but I find it to be an upgrade. Accesorized with colored tights and shoes, any of the looks in the show could make an awesome statement for fall.

Fashion Week Day 3

Today is superbowl, so first off Go Giants! Anyway it seems each day of fashion week keeps on getting better...

Oh Mr. Max Azria can you do any wrong? In his 2nd show of the week for his Herve Leger line he has once again brought beautiful clothes to the runway. Gorgeous dresses with floral details and gloves on almost every model set the tone. You can tell a lot of details went into the collection and that's what makes it perfection.

Twinkle by Wenlan is one of my favorite brands, although i have yet to own any of it. Their clothes are cute, fun, and wearable and their fall collection did not dissapoint. With various prints, chunky sweaters, and lovely dresses, any of their pieces could easily become a wardrobe staple.

Diane Von Furstenberg had an early 1900's theme going, with clothes insipred form the 20's and 40's. Her famous fun prints were in sight, but she also had tons of sophisticated pieces too. Fashion Week Day 2

Have I mentioned how much I love fashion week? If I lived in NYC I would totally hang around Bryant Park trying to catch a glimpse of the action, but sadly I don't.

Today started out with the Lacoste show and they literally brought snow indoors. They started and ended the show with all the models coming out, which was a cute idea. The brand kept up with their appearence of preppy chic and I loved how they had "couples" go down the runway. It was definitely a good show to open the day with and once I again I saw that lovely color of yellow.

I've never heard of Mara Hoffman and I don't know why since the brand has apparently been around for a few years now. I was definently impressed by the show though. It seems as though the inspiration was india mixed with jetsetter and I loved some of the prints they incorporated into their looks. Oh and they used M.I.A's Paper Planes in their soundtrack which is an automatic plus in my book.

I'm usually not a fan of high socks or leggings, but Sass & Bide makes them work. With sparkles, metallics, paint splatters, and frills, this collection combined a rock edge with girly elements. I love the detail put into the pieces and and there was no absence of ROY G BIV. Rock & Republic brought a new element to fashion week with a full on rock orchestra playing in the middle of the runway.The designs were sleek and edgy, with very little denim in sight. The color scheme was mostly black, with pops of purple here and there. Fashion Week Day 1

Fashion Week started today. I'll be updating with pictures and videos from the show as they come in and giving my opinions.

Here's the BCBGMAXAZRIA show. The soundtrack is amazing and the clothes are even better. I love the belt details and they chose a perfect fall color palette. I always love the BCBG shows and once again it has impressed me.

The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection 2008 was also shown today (today is National Wear Red Day) which creates awareness for women and heart disease. Laura Bush led the show off with a speech and the runway was set up like a red carpet. Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Tracy Reese, Badgley Mischka, Michael Kors, and supposedly L.A.M.B. created red dresses for the show. Wearing the designs were celebs Heidi Klum, Maria Menounos, Ashanti, Liza Minnelli, and many more. Here is the video and some of my favorite looks.

With a diverse crowd, soundtrack and looks, Nicole Miller's show really bought a smile to my face. From the beautiful dresses to the cool jackets, everything looked great. And I'm especially in love with the hue of yellow she used.

Victorya Hong was one of my favorite designers on Project Runway this year, and I was upset when she got booted off. When I heard she was doing Fashion Week I was so happy and excited to see her collection. Her NA·BE line definently impressed me and was very cohesive and well constructed.

One collection I disliked from today's events was Erin Fetherston's. Her Target line was cute but most of her runway just screamed Grandma/Renaissance Fair inspired. I will admit there were a few nice pieces, but overall it just didn't do it for me. She really needs to step her game up.

Ramblings & Fashion Week

So my promise to keep this blog updated a lot has obviously gone out the door. I've been so lazy lately, it must be that "senioritis" kicking in. I promised myself I wouldn't slack off and I did, now my math average is a 79. I can usually hassle my grades up, but my teacher refused to give me an 80, so there goes honor roll for 2nd quarter. Oh and my AP Environmental teacher has been out all week with a broken nose, so who knows what my garde is in that class. I didn't read all of Metamorphosis for English because it's lame and I'd rather read Style by Kate Spade. I've been trying to take a lot of fashion books out of the library lately and read up on everything. From fiction to style guides to history, it's all so interesting. I love seeing how trends have evolved throughout the years and stories about people coming from nothing making it to the top. Speaking of style, I decided to change Style Icon of the Week, to the Month because a week goes by too fast and I'll probably run out of people before I know it.

NY Fashion Week starts on Friday, which means starting Saturday I will be glued to the tv watching the shows on UltraHD(ch.729) and frequently checking style.com. I love getting ideas for outfits and seeing what the designers think of. I can't even imagine all the hard work that goes into these shows, it must be such a hectic process. The shows I'm most excited for are THE HEART TRUTH'S RED DRESS COLLECTION 2008, BCBGMAXAZRIA, NA·BE BY VICTORYA HONG, TWINKLE BY WENLAN, BETSEY JOHNSON, NANETTE LEPORE, PROENZA SCHOULER, and of course the MARC BY MARC JACOBS and the MARC JACOBS shows. Style Icon: Rachel Bilson

When I first watched The O.C. I instantly loved the character Summer. When I began to see Rachel Bilson in interviews she seemed like such a cool person and had a good sense of fashion. Over the years her style has grown and I am such a fan of her outfits. No matter where she is going she looks well put together and on point. She's one of the positive role models in young hollywood and someone who I am a huge fan of. This outfit is great for winter and very easy to recreate.

L.A.M.B.

When I was 6 years old and heard Just A Girl by No Doubt for the first time, I knew they were going to be my favorite band. Gwen became an icon to me and I used to walk around saying " I'm going to be like Gwen Stefani when I grow up". Eleven years later I'm still as big a fan as ever, but definitely do not by any means have an amazing singing voice. The only thing I can do to remotely be like Gwen is go into the fashion industry. When I found out she was coming out with handbags in 2003, I was in 8th grade and pretty much flipped out. I begged my mom for one and then for that Christmas I got one and was ecstatic. It was my first "designer" item and that's when I really started taking a keen interest in fashion. After that she has come out with clothes, shoes, watches, luxury bags, and a perfume. Everything she has come out with has amazed me and I am proud to be an owner of L.A.M.B. products. Gwen will always be an icon to me and I will keep on supporting her endeavors.


One thing I love about the L.A.M.B. clothing line is that each season is different. Of course there's a whole lot of Gwen in all of them, but a different theme always brings each season together. Whether it be a pirate theme, mod theme, or rastafarian, the line is always consistently great. From the little details that go in the clothes, to how their displayed on the runway, 95% of the time the line is impeccable. Like every clothing line L.A.M.B. has it's flaws, but it always manages to bring out something that makes up for that. I'm now going to post a few of my favorite pieces from each season, and what pieces I'm excited about for Spring.
